If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a condition that may
require surgery, you owe
it to
yourself to learn about all of your
medical options, including the most effective, least
invasive treatments
available. Though not everyone is a candidate for minimally invasive
surgery,
a substantial number of patients will be offered this option.
Dr.
Victor Ferlise is the Director of Robotics and Minimally Invasive
Urology for the Urologic
Health Center and is the only urologist
performing robotics in Ocean County. He has
participated in or personally
performed over 500 Robotic or Laparoscopic surgeries in the last
2
years with outstanding results. Prior to coming to Ocean County
he was on staff at the
University of Pennsylvania where he mastered
the use of the robot under the direction of
David Lee, one of the
world’s
experts.
The da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to perform surgeries through a series
of small
incisions. This state-of-the-art technology provides outstanding visualization
with 10-fold
magnification, 3-D optics as well as greatly enhanced dexterity
allowing for precise removal
of the prostate. This precision translates into
better cancer control, faster return of urinary
control and improved erectile
function outcomes.
Additional benefits include:
• Shorter hospital stay (usually one night)
• Less pain
• Quicker recovery and return to normal activity
• Less blood loss
• Less chance of infection
• Decreased scarring
• Quicker removal of urinary catheter
The Urologic Health Center is now applying Robotic and Laparoscopic
technology to all aspects
of urologic care. We are currently treating Kidney Cancer, Kidney
Obstruction, Bladder Cancer
and Adrenal Disease laparoscopically or robotically. This approach
allows us to provide cancer
curing or corrective surgery in a minimally invasive fashion. Patients
again have significantly
decreased pain, less blood loss, faster recovery, shorter hospital
stays and superior outcomes.
Dr. Howard is the Director of the Incontinence and Voiding Dysfunction Center
at the Urologic
Health Center. He has been recognized nation wide as a top tier surgeon for
the implementation
of Interstim (bladder nerve stimulation) for overactive bladder and minimally
invasive sling
procedures for incontinence. He completed his residency under the direction
of Alan J. Wein,
M.D. who is considered a world- expert in the field of Neurourology and Voiding
Dysfunction.
Dr. Howard lectures extensively on the subjects of Female Stress Incontinence,
the Overactive
Bladder and Male Voiding Dysfunction.
Dr. Howard’s special interests include male and Female Incontinence, Female
Genital Prolapse,
complicated Stone Surgery and Laparoscopy. In addition, Dr. Howard is certified
and trained to
perform minimally invasive therapies for BPH, Laparoscopy, and Microsurgery for
the treatment
of male infertility.
Dr. Howard is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the
American
College of Surgeons.
